Caution: Do not subject the electronic control unit of the passive restraint system to impacts when removing and installing the gear selector cable and gear shift cable.


Operations before removal and after installation



Remove and install the air filter unit.

Remove and install the battery and battery tray.

Removal the gear selector cable connection (gearbox side) and the gear shift rod clamp





Bend back the tabs on the shift rod clamp using a screwdriver etc., then remove the shift rod clamp from the bracket along with the cables.

Set the gear shift lever on the transmission side and the gear shift lever on the passenger compartment side to neutral.



Install the painted portion of the shift cable end (transmission side) and the painted portion of the gear select cable (transmission side) so that they face the cotter pin.

Note: Carefully install the shift rod clamp, shift cable and selector cable until they snap into place.




After installing the new shift linkage clamp onto the cable bracket on the transmission, install the shift cable and gear select cable into the cable bracket.

Note: The clamp is double-sided.


Move the gear shift lever through all positions, checking that it moves smoothly.

Check that there is no excessive play in the shift cable clamp at the end of the shift cable. If there is excessive play or the shift cable clamp has become disconnected from the end of the shift cable, check the gap in the clamp. If the gap is more than 9.5 mm, compress the shift cable clamp until there is a gap of 5-8 mm in the free state.

Gear Shift Lever Block







Insert the shift cable clip into the hook on the shift cable and press the shift cable clip with your thumbs until it clicks.

Install the shift cable onto the gear shift lever.
