Adjusting valve clearances (Mitsubishi L200 4)

The clearances are adjusted on a cold engine in two steps. The first measurement and clearance adjustment is made when the piston of the first cylinder is set to the TDC position of the beginning of the working stroke.



The second measurement and adjustment of the clearances is performed by turning the crankshaft 360°, while the piston of the fourth cylinder is in the TDC position of the beginning of the working stroke.



Inlet valve clearance - 0.09 mm.

The clearance of the exhaust valves is 0.14 mm.

The tightening torque of the lock nut is 15±3 Nm.



Installing the valve cover



1. Apply a small amount of 3M ATD Part # 8660 or equivalent sealant to the plug and install the plug into place in the main valve,

2. Apply a small amount of 3M ATD Part # 8660 or equivalent sealant to the surface of the plug and the main cylinder head as shown in the figure.



3. Install the gasket, valve cover and mounting screws.

4. Tighten the screws to a torque of 3.0±1.0 Nm in the order shown in the figure.

5. Tighten all screws again in the same order to a torque of 10±2 Nm.
