When checking any malfunction, find the cause of the problem. If the diagnostic results indicate the need to remove and disassemble the unit, perform the work according to the methodology described in this Manual.

If the parts have markings or alignment marks to ensure correct assembly and facilitate work, make sure that they are correctly oriented during assembly. This will prevent a reduction in technical characteristics or deterioration in appearance. When disassembling a unit consisting of a large number of identical and/or symmetrical parts, arrange the parts in a certain sequence to avoid mixing them during assembly.

Place the parts to be removed in the correct order.

Identify parts that will be reused and those that need to be replaced.

If it is necessary to replace bolts, nuts, etc., make sure that an element with the appropriate geometric parameters is used.

Using a regular tool instead of a special tool in service work may result in damage to vehicle components or injury to personnel. Therefore, when performing work that specifies the use of a special tool, make sure that the appropriate special tool is used.

If the following parts are removed, they must be replaced with new ones.
  • Cuffs (seals).
  • Gaskets (except cylinder head gasket).
  • Sealing elements.
  • O-ring gaskets.
  • Locknuts.
  • Cotter pins.
  • Self-locking nuts.

When replacing parts, use genuine MITSUBISHI parts.

Be careful, avoid spilling gasoline, oil, etc. Otherwise, it may get on the pipes or other rubber products, which may lead to a decrease in their performance properties.



Apply the specified lubricants to the appropriate components during assembly and installation as recommended in this Manual.

Before replacing an electrical system component or performing repairs to the electrical system, make sure that the negative (–) battery terminal is disconnected to prevent a short circuit.

Caution! Before connecting or disconnecting the negative terminal from the battery, make sure the ignition and parking lights are off, otherwise, damage to the semiconductor elements may occur.


Application of anti-corrosion coating and base (primer)



If oil or grease comes into contact with the oxygen sensor, it will cause deterioration in its performance. Cover the oxygen sensor with a protective cover when applying anti-corrosion coating or primer.

Preparing the vehicle for performing control and diagnostic operations



The term "condition of the vehicle before the start of the control and diagnostic operations" means that the condition of the vehicle before the start of the test must meet the following requirements:
  • the coolant temperature should be 80–90°C;
  • headlights, electric cooling fan, and all other auxiliary power consumers must be switched off;
  • the manual transmission is set to neutral;
  • the automatic transmission should be set to "P" mode.

Motor oils



Warning! Prolonged and repeated contact with mineral oils removes natural oils from the skin, causing dryness, irritation and dermatitis. Furthermore, used oil contains potentially hazardous compounds that can cause skin cancer. Appropriate skin protection measures and hand washing facilities should be used.




Recommended precautions



The most effective precaution taken in maintenance practice to prevent the risk of skin contact with mineral oils is the use of closed systems for the removal of used oils and greases, where possible, before disposal.

Avoid prolonged and repeated contact with oils, especially used oils.

When working with oils, wear protective clothing, including oil-resistant gloves.

Avoid allowing work clothes, especially underwear, to become soaked in oils.

Do not put oily rags in the pockets of work clothes, use work clothes without pockets to avoid this. Do not wear heavily oiled work clothes and shoes. Work clothes should be washed regularly; it also needs to be kept separate from everyday clothes.

If there is a risk of oils getting into your eyes, wear eye protection: chemical goggles or clear face shields; eyewash facilities should also be provided. A first aid kit should be available for cuts or wounds.

Wash your hands regularly with soap to completely remove oils from your skin, especially before eating (hand scrubs and brushes can also be useful). After washing your hands, it is recommended to apply a barrier cream containing lanolin to restore the necessary oil balance of the skin. Do not use gasoline, kerosene, diesel fuel or solvents to remove oils from the skin.
