Engine fault diagnostics (Mitsubishi Lancer 3)

If the engine does not start, a systematic analysis of the defect should be carried out. In order for the engine to start at all, two fundamental conditions must be met for a gasoline engine. The air-fuel mixture must enter the cylinders and an ignition spark must form in the spark plugs. Therefore, first of all, it is necessary to check whether fuel is supplied at all. How to do this is described in the sections "Carburetor" and "Injection device".

Note: On vehicles with a catalytic converter, do not run the starter for long periods of time without purpose, as this may damage the catalytic converter, see also section 10.4.

Problem: Engine starts poorly or does not start at all




*) In 16-valve engines, valve clearances are not adjusted, as they are equipped with a clearance compensator that does not require maintenance. It is necessary to check the clearance compensator and possibly replace it.
