The sensor is located at the top of the fuel tank. As the fuel level decreases, the float also drops. At the same time, the sensor resistance, taken from the sensor potentiometer slider, increases. As a result, the voltage supplied to the fuel gauge decreases, and the indicator pointer shifts toward "empty".
When the float is lowered further from a certain position, the warning device contact closes and the fuel reserve warning lamp on the instrument panel lights up.
