Checking Valve Guides — All Engines (Mitsubishi Lancer 3)

When repairing a cylinder head with leaky valves, it is not enough to treat or replace the valves and seats. It is also essential to check the wear of the valve guides. This is especially important for engines with high mileage. Worn guides do not ensure the valve seat centering and predetermine increased oil consumption. If the wear is high, the guide bushings should be replaced (workshop work).

Remove the valve.

Clean the guide bushing with a cylindrical brush.



Insert the valve into the guide and check the play by rocking the valve.

To check, apply a steel ruler. There should be virtually no play.



Otherwise, send the guides for revision (work in the workshop).

Caution: Do not install guides of the previous size under any circumstances.
