The gap compensator does not require maintenance. If there are unusual noises in the valve train, the gap compensators are checked as follows:
- Remove the cylinder head cover see point 1.8.
- Press the rocker arm against the valve clearance compensator with your finger.
- The gap compensator is in order if it does not compress and, when the rocker arm is pressed, it exerts stiff resistance.
- If the valve clearance compensator compresses easily and completely, it is defective and needs to be replaced.
- If the valve clearance compensator bulges slightly and is elastic, air has probably entered it.
- In this case, check the engine oil level. If the level is too high, drain or suck off the oil. Add oil when the level is low.
- If the oil level is normal, check the screen and screen seal in the oil pan, replace if damaged.
- Finally, bleed the air from the valve clearance compensator. To do this, warm up the engine and then drive the car at low speed. Switch off the engine and wait a few minutes. Then restart the engine and drive at low speed. Repeat this process several times within one hour.
