Attention: All elements of the exhaust system are connected by threaded connections and can be removed individually. When removing, be sure to replace the self-locking nuts and gaskets.
Removing
lift the car, see par. 29.
Spray all muffler mounting bolts and nuts and joints with rust remover. Allow the rust remover to work for a while.
Unscrew or disconnect all parts of the muffler in the sequence shown in the figure.
Support parts of the muffler that cannot be removed or hang them on a wire to the body.
Attention: When removing and installing the catalytic converter, protect it from impacts, as this may damage it. That is, do not drop or hit the body with a hammer.
Installation
Caution: To facilitate removal and unscrewing in the future, it is recommended to coat the nuts and bolts with a high temperature paste such as Liqui Moly LM-508-ASC. When installing a pipe that was in use, clean its connection points before installation from residues of combustion products with emery.
Attention: Especially on vehicles with a catalytic converter, first of all, the part of the muffler before the catalytic converter must be sealed. Therefore, all removed gaskets must be replaced with new ones, otherwise deterioration in performance may be observed.
Fasten or hang all parts of the muffler on rubber holders in the reverse order as shown in the figure. Do not tighten bolts.
Before tightening the bolts, straighten the muffler pipes by moving and turning them, and hang them on rubber hangers. At the same time, ensure sufficient distance from the bottom (not less than 25 mm).
Tighten the mounting flanges to the tightening torques shown in the figure.
Attention: Do not overtighten the bolts, otherwise the gaskets will be deformed, which will cause leaks in the system.
