Mechanical clutch drive
Measure the distance from the pedal to the floor board.
- Required value A (1.84 - 8.88): 158-163 mm.
- Required value A (9.88 - 3.92): 168-171 mm.
On cars manufactured from January 1984 to August 1988, the adjustment is made by rotating the stop bolt at the pedal support. Loosen the lock nut before doing this and tighten it again after adjustment.
On vehicles produced from August 1988 to March 1992, the pedal height is not adjustable. If necessary, check for deformation in the pedal support and possibly replace.
Press the clutch pedal with your finger until you feel resistance. Measure pedal free play. Required value B: 20-30 mm.
If the pedal free play is out of tolerance, adjust the clutch pedal free play by turning the outer clutch cable adjusting nut on the bulkhead. To do this, pull out the cable sheath from the side of the engine compartment, check the play at the adjusting nut. Required value: 5-6 mm. If this value differs, turn the adjusting nut. After that, press the clutch pedal several times and check the free play of the pedal again.
Press the clutch pedal several times and check if the distance from the pedal to the floor with the clutch depressed is within tolerance. Required value B: 80 mm or more. If it doesn't, the clutch is probably bad.
Hydraulic clutch
Measure the distance from the rubber pedal pad to the floor sheathing, see fig. K-2808.
- Required value A (9.88 - 4.89): 170-175 mm.
- Required value A (5.89 - 3.92): 168-171 mm.
Press the clutch pedal with your finger until you feel resistance. Measure pedal free play. Required value B: 1-3 mm.
If the clutch pedal height or free play is out of tolerance, adjust the clutch pedal as follows:
Loosen the locknut and adjust the clutch pedal height with the adjusting bolt. Tighten locknut to approx. 15 Nm.
Note: If the clutch pedal height is lower than the required value, loosen the screw and then turn the push rod until the adjustment can be made. After adjustment, tighten the set bolt until the pedal stops, and then tighten the lock nut.
Adjust the clutch pedal free play at the fork head pin by turning the push rod. Then tighten the lock nut to approx. 15 Nm.
Attention: When adjusting the height or free play of the clutch pedal, make sure that the push rod does not rest against the master cylinder.
Press the clutch pedal several times and check if the distance from the pedal to the floor with the clutch depressed is within tolerance. Required value: 70 mm or more. In this case, the free travel of the clutch pedal should be from 6 to 13 mm.
If the pedal distance or free play is out of tolerance, it is likely that the clutch or master cylinder is defective, or there is air in the hydraulic system.
