Checking and adjusting the clutch pedal (Mitsubishi Pajero 4)

1. Unscrew the mat, etc. under the clutch pedal.

2. Measure the distance from the clutch pedal to the floor.

Nominal value (A): 202.7-205.7 mm.



3. Measure the play in the clutch pedal pin connection (with a hole for a cotter pin) with clutch master cylinder pusher.

Nominal value (B): 1 - 3 mm.

4. If the clutch pedal play is outside the nominal range, loosen the lock nut and adjust the play by changing the length of the master cylinder pusher.

Caution: Do not press the push rod into the clutch master cylinder during adjustment.


5. If the distance (A) is not within the nominal range, it is necessary to adjust it by loosening the lock nut and turning the adjusting bolt, either by changing the length of the master cylinder rod or by turning the adjusting bolt (vehicles without cruise control system (systems for maintaining a constant vehicle speed)) or clutch switch sensor (cars with cruise control system (constant speed vehicle maintenance system)).



6. After completing the above adjustments, ensure that the clutch pedal has (full) free travel (measured by pedal pad) and the distance between the clutch pedal pad and the floor when the clutch is disengaged, lie within the range of nominal values.


  • Nominal value (C): 4-13 mm;
  • Nominal value (D): 125 mm or more.

7. If the clutch pedal has free play (measured by pedal pad) and the distance between the clutch pedal pad and the floor when the clutch is disengaged is outside the range of nominal values, then this may be caused by air entering the clutch hydraulic drive, a malfunction in the clutch master cylinder or in the clutch itself. Bleed the hydraulic system or disassemble and check the clutch master cylinder or clutch.

8. Put the rug, etc. back in place.
