General information

The Supplemental Passive Safety System (SRS) is designed to be used in conjunction with pretensioner seat belts to enhance crash safety and reduce the risk of injury in the event of airbag deployment by keeping front passengers in their seats in the event of a frontal impact.

The SRS system consists of two airbags, each of which contains a module with a folded airbag and an inflator (gas generator); sRS electronic control unit (mounted under the center console assembly) which controls the entire system and contains built-in impact sensors and an analog acceleration sensor (primary); sRS indicator (located on the instrument panel), which shows the current status of the SRS system; spiral wire located in the steering column and electrical wiring.

The SRS system is designed so that the front airbag deploys when sudden deceleration occurs, comparable in magnitude to that caused by a frontal impact, with the ignition switch in the "ON" position.

The seat belt pretensioner is built into the inertia locking mechanism.

Extreme care must be taken when servicing the SRS system to avoid injury or death to service personnel (due to unauthorized airbag deployment), or to the front seat occupant (due to SRS inoperability after unqualified service or repair).
