Central locking — description and testing (Mitsubishi Galant 5)

The central locking system controls the drives mounted in each door. The system consists of switches, drives and wires. Diagnostics of system faults requires special tools and skills, so it is better to contact your dealer. However, the simplest check and repair of wire and drive connections can be done independently. The check includes:

• a) Checking the fuse and/or circuit breaker.
• b) Checking the switch wires for damage or weak connections. Checking the switches for conductivity.
• c) Remove the door panel(s) and check the actuator connections. Inspect the actuator rods (if any) to ensure that they are not bent, damaged or binding. The actuator can be checked by briefly applying power from the battery. If the solenoid is OK, a click should be heard.
