Electric windows — description and testing (Mitsubishi Galant 5)

Electric window lifters, controlled by electric drives mounted in the doors, are designed to raise and lower the glass. The system consists of control switches, drives (regulators), a window lift mechanism and wires.

An electric window lift is a complex mechanism, so its repair and diagnostics require special tools and skills.

However, the simplest check and repair of wire and drive connections can be done independently. The check includes:

• a) Inspection of window lift switches, wires for damage and weak connections.
• b) Checking the fuse and/or circuit breaker.
• c) Remove the door panel(s) and check the window lift drive connections and inspect the window lift mechanism for damage that could cause jamming.
