The driver's airbag and the rotating contact joint are removed in the following order (see Fig. M2 7.073).

1. Lid (see below).
  • Horn plug.
  • Driver airbag module connector (see below).

2. Driver airbag module (see below).

3. Steering wheel (see below).
  • Steering column cover.

4. Rotating contact joint (see below).

Installation is carried out in reverse order, with checks (see below) performed before and after installation (after connecting the battery).

Features of removal

The cover is removed using a trim remover.

To disconnect the spring plug, press and hold the locking button.

To remove the driver airbag module, remove the mounting (star) screws from the steering wheel.

To remove the steering wheel, turn it so that the wheels are straight and remove it using a special tool.

Installation Features

Before installing airbags, it is recommended to perform a check using a diagnostic device.

The installation of the rotating contact joint is carried out as follows.

1. Align the marks. This should be done as accurately as possible for the driver's safety during subsequent use of the vehicle. Turn the spring clockwise until it stops. Then turn it counterclockwise approximately 3.75 turns until the marks align.

2. Turn the steering wheel so that the wheels are as straight as possible, then install the spring onto the column switch.

Before installing the steering wheel and driver air bag module, turn the wheels straight forward. After securing the steering wheel, turn it in both directions and make sure it rotates normally.

After installing and connecting the battery, perform a simple check.

Turn on the ignition and watch the SRS indicator: if it lights up for about 7 seconds and goes out, then the system is OK; otherwise there are problems in the system.
