Drive shaft elements with roller joints
1 - CV joint (BJ); 2 - clamp; 3 - damper (not for this model); 4 - clamp; 5 - case; 6 - inner CV joint race (TJ); 7 - retaining ring; 8 - CV joint housing (TJ); 9 - anther; A - right side; B - left side.

ATTENTION: The BJ type CV joint cannot be disassembled, except in cases of replacing the protective cover (supplied in the repair kit).

Before replacing the hinge boot, measure the distance (L) between the boot clamps; when installing new boot covers, this distance should be maintained to avoid premature wear of the boot covers.

Disassembly

Remove the drive shaft.

When replacing a hinge, it is necessary to determine its number, which is located on the cover or on the cover clamp.

Remove the CV joint housing (TJ).

Remove the snap ring. Wipe the grease off the CV joint components and use paint or chalk to make alignment marks on the drive shaft and inner race.

Secure the TJ rollers with tape, then remove the TJ inner race with the spherical rollers assembly.

Remove the clamp securing the protective cover of the CV joint drive shaft.

Remove the CV joint (TJ) boot and protective cover.

Remove the dynamic damper (if equipped).

Remove the CV joint (BJ) assembly.

Remove the small and large CV joint boot clamps.

Remove the protective cover of the CV joint. If the cover is to be reinstalled, wrap the shaft splines with adhesive tape before removing the cover.

Wash all hinge parts with solvent until the old hinge grease is completely removed.

Check all hinge parts for wear and damage.

CV joint repair kit (TJ)
1 - body; 2 - retaining ring; 3 - inner ring; 4 - case; 5 - clamp.

Assembly

Wrap the splines of the drive shaft with adhesive tape and slide the new protective boot onto the drive shaft. Remove the adhesive tape.

Install the inner CV joint race (TJ) with the rollers assembled, while the previously applied marks on the joint and shaft must be aligned.

Install the retaining ring.

If the rollers were removed from the inner race, apply a layer of grease to the roller bearings and install the rollers on the inner race axle.

Apply half of the required amount of grease into the inner joint housing on the inner race. When installing the joint housing, check that the alignment marks made when removing the housing match.

Install the protective cover and secure it with clamps.

Install a dynamic damper (if equipped).

Install the drive shaft
