Removal
1. Mark the seating position of the hinge in the body of your clamp. Using special pliers, remove the retaining rings.
2. Using a large clamp, press the bearing journals of the crosspiece out of the clamp: a bushing of a suitable size is installed on the fixed part of the clamp, into which the journal is pressed - if necessary, tap the clamp with a soft-faced hammer. Having released the journal, remove the bearing. Proceeding in a similar manner, remove the remaining bearings and remove the crosspiece.
Installation
1. Lubricate the bearing journals, oil pans, dust boot lips and needle roller bearings of the replacement universal joint with multi-purpose grease.
Do not over-grease - excess grease can cause circlip errors and damage to bearing caps.
2. Using a clamp, press the bearings into the clamp and secure them with new retaining rings of the same thickness as those removed during assembly disassembly. The final tapping of the journals can be done using a brass drift with a diameter of 15 mm.
3. Using a blade-type feeler gauge, determine the clearances of the retaining rings in their grooves. If the measurement result is outside the permissible range (0.02÷0.06 mm), the corresponding ring must be replaced.
