Removal
1. Disconnect the negative cable from the battery.
Warning! If the car stereo system is equipped with a security code, make sure you have the correct combination to activate the audio system before disconnecting the battery!
2. Jack up the car and place it on supports. Drain the oil from the transfer case.
3. Disconnect the exhaust pipe from the exhaust manifold.
4. Unbolt the transfer case and carefully remove it from the rear propeller shaft - try not to damage the seal seated in the output compartment casing. Immediately tie the free end of the propeller shaft with wire to the frame elements.
5. Seal the openings in the gearbox and transmission case to minimize transmission oil loss and prevent dirt from getting inside the components.
Installation
1. Lubricate the sliding clamp of the cardan shaft and the lips of the seal in the extension housing of the transfer case. Install the box on the transmission. When connecting the cardan shaft to the box, try not to damage the seal.
2. Tighten the transfer case mounting bolts to the required torque (55÷60 Nm: for models with manual transmission and 60÷80 Nm: for models with automatic transmission).
3. After replacing the sealing gasket, connect the inlet pipe to the exhaust manifold.
4. Reinstall all components removed for access purposes.

5. Fill the transfer case and transmission with fresh transmission fluid (see Chapter Settings and ongoing maintenance).
