Body straightening and painting work requires experience and knowledge of materials and processing methods. This is usually achieved only through many years of practice. Therefore, only the elimination of minor defects of the body and its paintwork is described here.

For touch-up paintwork, it is essential to have paint of exactly the same color, since differences in color immediately become apparent upon completion of the work. The color of the car paint is indicated by the manufacturer with a paint number on the nameplate with the car code, located on the inside of the hood of the engine compartment in front. The paint number is on the nameplate in position "4". If a difference in color between the original and repair paint does appear, the reason for this is that the car's paintwork has changed its color over time due to exposure to ultraviolet sunlight, extreme temperature fluctuations, weather conditions and chemical aggression, such as industrial gases. In addition, damage to surfaces and fading of paint can also occur when washing or caring for the paintwork with unsuitable means.

Metallic paintwork consists of two layers, a Metallic primer layer and a clear varnish coating. When painting, the clear varnish is applied to the still damp primer. The risk of colour differences when painting Metallic is particularly high, since the different viscosity of the original and repair paint already leads to colour differences.
