Removal

Disconnect the ground cable from the battery.
Caution: This erases data in the electronic memory, such as the engine fault memory or the radio receiver code. Disconnect the battery only when the ignition is switched off, otherwise the fuel injection unit control unit may be damaged. Before disconnecting the battery, read the instructions in the sections "Radio receiver" and "Removal and installation the battery".
Loosen the bolts of pulleys "4" and "5" of the water pump without removing them. When loosening the bolts, hold the pulleys from turning.
Loosen and remove the air conditioning V-belt (if installed), power steering V-belt "2", and the alternator V-belt "3", see p. 1.21.
Unscrew the bolts and remove the pulleys.
Remove the protective cap, the large cross-section wire mount (B+), and disconnect the cable connector.
Unscrew the bolts on the generator support and on the clamp "6" and remove the generator.
Installation
Place the generator and secure it to the support without tightening the bolts.

Insert the tie bolt.
Check the wear of the V-belt; if worn, replace the belt.
Apply and tighten the V-belt, see p. 1.21.
Connect the electrical wiring to the generator.
Connect the ground cable to the battery.
If available, set the time on the clock and enter the security code into the radio.
