Removal
Caution: On models with the Supplemental Restraint System (SRS), before removing the airbag, read the safety precautions in the appropriate section of the chapter "Supplemental Restraint System (SRS)".
− Before starting to remove parts, remove the steering wheel (see section "Steering wheel").
− The parts are removed in the order of numbers shown in the figure "Steering column".
Steering column. 1 - lower steering column cover; 2 - Upper steering column cover; 3 - steering column combination switch assembly with spiral wire; 4 - retainer; 5 - ignition lock cable; 6 - steering column cover; 7 - steering column; 8 - protective cover assembly.
Disassembly
− The parts are removed in the order of numbers shown in the figure "Disassembling the steering column".
Disassembling the steering column. 1 - special bolts; 2 - steering column lock bracket; 3 - steering column lock; 4 - retaining ring; 5 - steering shaft assembly; 6 - spring; 7 - steering column pipe.
- When removing parts, pay attention to the following operations.
1. Removing the special bolt, steering column lock bracket and steering column lock.
a) To remove the steering column lock, drill holes in the bolt heads.
b) Use a tap to cut threads in the holes.
c) Screw in the bolts to remove the special bolts.
d) Remove the special bolts.

Pre-assembly check
1. Check the axial clearance in the steering shaft joint.
2. Check that the steering column is not bent.
3. Check the steering column for malfunctions and damage.
