Control parameters
The front axle includes the front wheel hubs, steering knuckles, hub bearings and drive shafts. The front axle has the following design features:
As hub bearings, double-row angular contact ball bearings are used, capable of absorbing significant axial loads, the design of which includes oil seals.
The drive shafts include constant velocity joints - joints of the type «tripod» (TJ) and Brifield hinges (PTJ), which have a high efficiency and, as a result, a low level of vibration and noise.
In order to reduce the noise generated by the gears of the drive shafts, dynamic vibration dampers are installed on the drive shafts.
The ring gear of the wheel speed sensor is pressed into the outer constant velocity joint.
Checking the axial play of the wheel bearing
Remove the caliper assembly and hang it on a wire.
Remove the brake disc from the front wheel hub.
Install the dial gauge as shown in the illustration. While moving the hub in the axial direction, measure the axial play of the hub bearing.
Permissible value: 0.05 mm.
If the axial play exceeds the allowable value, disassemble the front wheel hub assembly and check the technical condition of the structural elements.
Install the brake disc and caliper assembly, tighten the caliper mounting bolts to a torque of 100±10 Nm.
Replacing the hub bolts
Remove the caliper assembly and hang it on a wire to keep it from falling.
Remove the brake disc.
With a bolt extractor (MV991618) remove the hub bolts.
Put the washer on the new hub bolt and, holding the hub with the holder (MV990767), install the bolt together with the nut.
Install the brake disc and caliper assembly, tighten the caliper mounting bolts to 100 + 10 Nm.
