Control parameters

The front axle includes the front wheel hubs, steering knuckles, hub bearings and drive shafts. The front axle has the following design features:

The hub bearings used are double-row radial thrust ball bearings, capable of withstanding significant axial loads, the design of which includes seals.

The drive shafts include constant velocity joints – Tripod joints (TJ) and Brifield joints (PTJ), which have high efficiency and, as a result, low vibration and noise levels.

In order to reduce noise generated by the drive shaft gears, dynamic vibration dampers are installed on the drive shafts.

The toothed ring of the wheel speed sensor is pressed into the outer constant velocity joint.

Checking the axial play of the hub bearing

Remove the caliper assembly and hang it on a wire.

Remove the brake disc from the front wheel hub.

Install a dial indicator as shown in the figure. Measure the axial play of the hub bearing by moving the hub axially.

Acceptable value: 0.05 mm.

If the axial play exceeds the permissible value, disassemble the front wheel hub assembly and check the technical condition of the structural elements.

Install the brake disc and caliper assembly, tighten the caliper mounting bolts to a torque of 100±10 N·m.

Replacing the hub mounting bolts

Remove the caliper assembly and hang it on a wire so that it does not fall.

Remove the brake disc.

Using the bolt puller (MB991618), remove the hub mounting bolts.

Place the washer on the new hub mounting bolt and, holding the hub with the holder (MB990767), install the bolt together with the nut.

Install the brake disc and caliper assembly, tighten the caliper mounting bolts to a torque of 100 + 10 N·m.
