Automatic air conditioning (Mitsubishi Outlander 1)

The air conditioner can only operate when the engine is running.

Caution! When the air conditioner is running, the idle speed increases slightly because the air conditioner compressor turns on and off automatically. Therefore, be careful when starting the car.

Note: The vehicle is equipped with a light sensor and an interior air temperature sensor

A – light sensor.

B – air temperature sensor inside the car.

Do not place any objects on the surface of the sensors. This may prevent them from working properly.



Under normal conditions, it is recommended to use the air conditioning system in automatic mode. To switch it to this mode, do the following:

• 1 – Set the fan speed selection switch to the "AUTO" position;
• 2 – Turn the air temperature control knob to the position corresponding to the desired temperature. The temperature can be set within the range from 15 to 29°C. To increase the temperature, turn the knob to the right.

Note: Under normal conditions, it is recommended to set the temperature to around 22°C.

When the air conditioner is operating in automatic mode, when selecting the maximum or minimum temperature, switching between air intake and recirculation modes will occur automatically as follows:

• rapid heating (when the maximum temperature mode is selected). Outside air will be supplied and air conditioning will stop;
• fast cooling (when the minimum temperature mode is selected). The air inside the cabin will be recirculated and the air conditioning system will turn on.

If you switch the air conditioner operating mode manually after it has been switched to automatic control, the system will start operating in manual control mode.

Set the ventilation mode selection switch to the "AUTO" position.

Press the air conditioner switch to start it. When the air conditioner is running, its indicator light should be on.

The air conditioning system automatically controls the air supply through the deflectors (except for ventilation modes, fan speed and air conditioner on/off).

Selecting some air conditioning parameters manually

If you set the fan speed selector knob or ventilation mode selector knob to any position at your discretion, the system will still automatically control all parameters except those set by the corresponding switches. To return to automatic control of all parameters, turn the ventilation mode selector knob to the "AUTO" position.

Selecting (changing) the ventilation mode

Set the ventilation mode to your liking. Turn the switch knob and the mode will change.

• A. From the windshield and side window deflectors.
• B. From the central deflectors.
• C. From the side deflectors.
• D. From under the dashboard.
• E. From under the front seat.
• * – means weak air flow.

Main directions of air flows (ventilation modes)

(To the head area). The air flow enters the upper part of the car interior.

(To the foot/head area) Air is supplied to the upper part of the car interior and to the foot area.

(To the leg area) Air enters only the leg area.

(To the footwell/to the windshield and side window heating deflectors). Air is directed to the footwell area, as well as to the windshield and door windows.

(To the windshield and side window heating deflectors). Air is supplied only to the windshield and door windows of the vehicle.

Note: Air is always supplied from the side vents regardless of the position of the ventilation mode selection knob.

Selecting the air intake mode

Each time this switch is pressed, the ventilation mode changes between the outside air intake mode and the recirculation mode. In the recirculation mode, the indicator lamp A lights up.

Outdoor air intake mode

Outside air enters the car's interior.

Air recirculation mode

Air recirculation occurs in the car's interior.

Note: The outside air intake mode should be selected to quickly clear the windshield and side windows of moisture or ice and keep them clean.

Select the recirculation mode when intensive cooling of the interior air is required, and also if the outside air is very dusty or polluted.

In this case, you should periodically turn on the outside air intake mode, which will prevent the windows from fogging up.

If you set the fan speed selection knob or ventilation mode selection knob to the "AUTO" position again after manual adjustment, the air intake switch will also be adjusted automatically.

Warning: Using the air recirculation mode for a long time may cause the windows to fog up.

Selecting the fan operating mode

By turning the control knob clockwise and counterclockwise, you can set the desired air supply speed. The air supply speed will smoothly increase when you turn the knob to the right.



To remove frost or condensation (fogging) from the windshield or door windows, set the control knob to the position or .



in this position, fogging is removed from the windshield and door windows, and the foot area is heated (recommended when driving in rain or snow).

Set the air intake mode selection switch A to the outside air intake position.



Set the ventilation mode selection knob to the position .

Adjust the fan speed.

Adjust the temperature.

Press the air conditioner switch B.



For quick removal of fogged glass.

Set the ventilation mode selection knob to .

By setting the fan speed control knob to maximum.



Set the air temperature control knob to maximum.

Note: When the ventilation mode selector knob is set to position, air conditioning is performed automatically and the air intake mode is also turned on automatically. This is done to improve the performance of the air conditioner.

To effectively remove fog from the windows, direct the air flow from the side deflectors to the door windows.

Do not set the air temperature control knob to a position close to the maximum cooling position. Cooled air will be supplied to the door glass and condense on it (fogging will occur).

Cooling

Set the ventilation mode selection knob to the position . Set switch A to the outside air intake mode and press air conditioner switch B.

Adjust the temperature by turning the air temperature control knob clockwise or counterclockwise. Select the desired fan speed.

Note: If the outside air is dusty, extremely polluted, or if you want to cool the air in the car quickly, set the air intake mode selector switch to the recirculation position and turn the temperature control knob all the way to the left. Periodically switch to the outside air intake mode to prevent moisture from condensing on the windows.

Note: If a malfunction occurs in the air conditioning system, the air conditioning indicator lamp will start to flash. Press the air conditioning switch once to turn it off, then press it again to turn it on. If the indicator lamp stops flashing, there is no malfunction. If the lamp continues to flash, consult your MITSUBISHI dealer.

Sometimes (for example, if the car was washed under a strong water pressure) the air conditioner becomes wet, and accordingly the control lamp A will start to flash. This does not mean a malfunction. Wait a little, and then press the air conditioner switch twice (first to turn it off, then to turn it on). After the water evaporates, the lamp will stop flashing.

Caution! When the air conditioner is running, the engine idle speed increases slightly due to its automatic switching on and off. If you have stopped the car, fully depress the brake pedal to prevent it from moving; this precaution is especially important for vehicles with automatic transmission.

Turning off the air conditioner

To turn off the air conditioner, move the fan speed control knob to the "OFF" position. After that, you only have the option to change the air intake mode.
