Switching the automatic transmission lever
1. In order to move the lever, it is necessary to depress the brake pedal, press the button on the lever and move the lever to the desired position.
2. In order to move the lever, you do not need to press the button.
3. To move the lever, press the button on the lever.
As an added safety feature, automatic transmission models have a device that locks the automatic transmission lever in park.
To move the lever to another position, follow these steps:
1. Depress and hold the brake pedal.
2. Move the automatic transmission lever to the desired position.
Attention! The automatic transmission lever cannot be shifted to another position if the ignition key is in the LOCK position, or removed from the ignition switch, or if the brake pedal is not depressed.
The indicator panel, located on the console on the right side of the driver, is illuminated at night.
Gear lever positions
– parking gear
The parking gear complements the parking brake by locking the automatic transmission when the vehicle needs to be parked.
When the automatic transmission lever is in this position, the engine can be started.
When parking the vehicle, in addition to engaging the parking gear, apply the parking brake as well.
Attention! If the brake pedal is not depressed, the interlock will prevent the automatic transmission lever from being shifted from park to another position.
Attention! Never engage park gear while the vehicle is moving.
– reverse gear
Shift the automatic transmission lever to this position only after the vehicle has come to a complete stop.
– neutral gear
With the automatic transmission lever in this position, the engine can be started.
Attention! Always depress the brake pedal when shifting the automatic transmission lever from N (neutral gear) to another gear position. When starting off, do not shift the automatic transmission lever from position N (neutral gear) into a different gear position while depressing the brake pedal. This is dangerous as the vehicle may jerk forward or backward.
Attention! If the vehicle is on a slope, it must be started with the automatic transmission lever in the P position (parking gear), not in position N (neutral gear).
– forward transmission
Engage this gear when driving on the highway or in the city.
– second gear
Engage this gear when driving at low speeds in high traffic cities or on mountainous roads where greater vehicle control is needed.
Also use this gear when climbing long steep hills or for engine braking on not very steep descents.
– downshift
Engage this gear when climbing very steep hills and for engine braking on steep descents at speeds of 40 km/h or less.
Maximum travel speed (vehicles with automatic transmission)
To prevent damage to the engine when running at very high speeds, do not exceed the maximum travel speed by 2 (second) or L (reduced) transmission.
Car rocking
If the vehicle is stuck in snow, sand or mud, etc., it can be released by rocking the vehicle back and forth. To do this, switch the automatic transmission lever between positions L (downshift) and R (reverse gear), by slightly depressing the accelerator pedal.
Do not press the pedal too hard and make sure that the wheels do not slip.
If you try to free the vehicle for an extended period, the transmission may overheat and fail. Take a few minutes between attempts to rock the vehicle to allow the automatic transmission fluid to cool while the engine is idling.
If you cannot free the car after several attempts to rock the car, you need to seek someone's help.
Attention! When attempting to free a stuck vehicle by rocking it, make sure there are no people or large objects around the vehicle. The car can suddenly jump out of captivity and knock down people or objects standing in front or behind.
Stopping a car on a hill
Never stop the vehicle on a hill by leaving a gear engaged and holding the vehicle in place while depressing the accelerator pedal. This can cause the automatic transmission to overheat.
Use the foot brake.
Overdrive switch
a - switch
During normal driving, the overdrive switch must be on (button pressed). The overshift off warning light on the instrument panel will turn off.
When the button is pressed, the transmission will automatically shift from 1st to 4th gear when the automatic transmission lever is in position D.
If you need to pick up speed quickly or use engine braking when going downhill, or if you are going up a steep hill, the button on the automatic transmission lever must be pressed again to disengage it.
The overshift warning light on the instrument panel will come on and the transmission will automatically shift from 1st to 3rd gear only.
Automatic transmission mode switch
Depending on road conditions, the switch can be set to NORMAL, PWR, or HOLD mode for driving under normal conditions, for driving when more engine power is required, or for driving without automatic shifting, respectively.
Each time the switch button is pressed, the transmission mode switches between NORMAL, PWR or HOLD mode in turn.
The PWR and HOLD indicator lights will turn on and off respectively.
Under normal conditions, the transmission should operate in NORMAL mode when the switch button is not pressed. The PWR and HOLD indicator lights will turn off.
Normal operation of an automatic transmission
Select this mode for driving under normal conditions. In this mode, the gearbox and engine run quietly and smoothly with good fuel economy.
Automatic transmission mode
PWR automatic transmission mode (POWER)
Use this mode when you need more engine power when driving uphill or when overtaking other vehicles at high speed. When this mode is enabled, the indicator light on the instrument panel lights up.
HOLD automatic transmission mode
Select the HOLD automatic transmission mode when you start off on a slippery road and the car will start smoothly in second gear.
If the automatic transmission does not change gears vehicles with an automatic transmission mode switch)
If your vehicle does not change gears while driving, or the vehicle cannot pick up speed when starting off on a hill, then there is a malfunction in the gearbox and the automatic transmission safety mechanism in the vehicle has been activated. Have an expert check the automatic transmission as soon as possible.
If you need to pull away on a hill, turn on L (reduced) transmission.
In this gear, it will be easier for the car to move downhill.
When the vehicle is on a level road, shift the automatic transmission to position D.
Attention! If the automatic transmission breaks down, the signal lamp for automatic transmission fluid overheating starts flashing.
