- ATF Dexron or Dexron II.
Examination
- Warm up the car after driving for about 20 km, the temperature of the oil in the gearbox is between 70°and 80°C.
- Park the car on a level surface.
- Start the engine at idle speed. Engage the handbrake, alternately switch to all positions with the gear shift lever from P to L and move the lever to position N.
- Pull out the dipstick and wipe it with a lint-free cloth. Attention: Before pulling out the dipstick, clean the area around it.
- Insert the dipstick all the way and pull it out again.
- Check oil level. The oil level should be up to the HOT mark. Otherwise, add oil to the automatic box.
- Pour oil into the box through a suitable funnel with a mesh through the hole for the dipstick. Attention: When the level is low, the oil pump pumps air into the system, which can cause malfunctions of the box. At an elevated level, the box overheats and the oil is squeezed out through the vent valve. At elevated levels, suck off excess oil.
Caution: If the oil in the automatic transmission is black and smells burnt, it should be changed. It may be that the box needs to be repaired (workshop work).
- Fully insert oil dipstick.
