In the following cases, you can only tow the car with a tow truck: the engine is running, but the car does not move, or an abnormal sound of the engine is heard.
Car towing by tow truck (tractor)
Attention! This vehicle must not be towed by a Type A tow truck (see picture). Using this type of lifting mechanism may damage the bumper and the front of the vehicle.
Do not tow a four wheel drive vehicle with either the front or rear wheels touching the ground (type B or type C in the figure) This can damage the vehicle's control system or cause it to be separated from the tow truck. To tow a four-wheel drive vehicle, use a tow truck with equipment (type D) or (type C).
If the gearbox is damaged, transport the vehicle so that the drive wheels are on the towing device (type C, D or E) as indicated in the figure.
Towing with front wheels up (type C)
Release the parking brake. Place the shift lever in neutral «N» (NEUTRAL).
Towing with rear wheels up (type B)
Place the shift lever in neutral «N» (NEUTRAL).
Turn the ignition key to position «ACC» («Optional equipment») and secure the steering wheel with a belt, rope, etc. in a position where the front wheels are pointing straight ahead (parallel to the longitudinal axis of the vehicle). Never turn the ignition key to «LOCK» («blocking»). This is dangerous as the steering wheel may lock.
Emergency towing
If towing is required, we recommend that it be carried out by a MITSUBISHI dealer or a professional commercial towing company.
Only if it is not possible to call the evacuation service, the car can be temporarily towed with a tow rope or chain.
If the vehicle needs to be towed, or if it is towing another vehicle, pay attention to the following rules and recommendations.
Car towing by another car
The front towing hook A is located at the location shown in the figure. Attach a tow rope (cable) to the tow hook.
Remove the bottom cover from the bumper before towing.
Note. If the bumper cover is removed, it may be dented or damaged from contact with the towing rope during towing (rope).
Note. Do not use hook B for towing. It is intended only for securing the vehicle during transport.
Using any part of the vehicle other than the designated towing hook A for towing may result in damage to the vehicle body.
Try not to use metal cables and ropes for towing, because. they can damage the body.
If a metal tow cable is used, wrap it with a cloth where it comes in contact with the vehicle.
Make sure that the tow rope (rope, chain) located as close to the horizontal position as possible so that it does not damage the body.
Never try to pull a car out of a deep ditch with a rope (cable), since in this case the latter cannot be placed horizontally.
Loosen all clips D. To do this, insert the tip of a flat-bladed screwdriver into the groove of the clip. Carefully prying on the retainer and using the screwdriver as a lever, pull the retainer out.
Remove the lower bumper cover.
After the vehicle has been towed, reinstall the bumper cover in reverse order.
Leave the engine running. If the engine is not running, turn the ignition key to the «ACC» («Optional equipment») or «ON» («On») to unlock the steering wheel.
Attention! Since the engine is not running, the brake booster and power steering pump do not function. This means that more force is required to brake and steer. Therefore, driving becomes more difficult than in conventional (full-time) conditions.
Do not leave the ignition key in the «LOCK» («blocking»). If the key is removed from the ignition while driving in this position, the steering wheel will be locked and the vehicle will become uncontrollable.
Place the shift lever in neutral «N» («NEUTRAL»).
Turn on the alarm.
During towing, reliable communication between the drivers of both vehicles must be ensured, and movement must occur at a low speed.
Warning! Avoid sudden acceleration, sudden braking and sharp turns, otherwise the tow hooks and cable may be damaged, resulting in injury (and be hurt) People around.
On a long descent, the brakes can overheat and lose their effectiveness. In this case, the car must be transported on a tow truck.
Towing another vehicle
Loosen all clips E. To do this, insert the tip of a flat screwdriver into the slot of the clip and carefully pry the clip out.
Remove the lower bumper cover.
After the vehicle has been towed, reinstall the bumper cover in reverse order.
The rear towing hook F is located at the location shown in the figure. Attach a tow rope (cable) to the tow hook.
Note. Do not use a towing hook (G). It is intended only for fixing the car during transportation.
Using any part of the vehicle other than the designated towing hook F for towing may result in damage to the vehicle body.
The vehicle may only be used to tow another vehicle of equal or lesser weight.
