Warning! Some models of vehicles covered in this manual are equipped with a supplemental restraint system (SRS). Before performing any work near the airbag units, steering column or instrument panel, turn off the SRS to avoid injury from accidental deployment (see Chapter On-board electrical equipment). The SRS circuit wiring is easily identified by the yellow color of the insulation.

The body of the vehicles considered in this Manual has a universal design, the supporting element of which is the floor panel, equipped with front and rear side members and forming a semblance of a frame, to which, in turn, the body panels, suspension components, steering, etc. are attached.

Some of the body parts that are most vulnerable in a crash are bolted on and can be easily replaced. These removable components include moldings, bumpers, door panels, hood, trunk lid, and all glass.

The average amateur mechanic's skill level includes only the most basic repair and maintenance procedures for body components.
