Control lights in the instrument cluster

Direction indicator/hazard warning lights

One of these lamps flashes when the corresponding (left or right) turn signal is turned on

Note: If the blinking frequency increases, this indicates a loose connection in the circuit of one of the turn signals or a faulty bulb.

When the hazard warning button is turned on, both direction indicator lamps flash.

High beam indicator light



This indicator light comes on when the high beam headlights are turned on.

Fog light indicator light

This indicator light comes on when the fog lights are turned on.

Rear fog light indicator light

This indicator light comes on when the rear fog light is turned on.

Diesel engine glow plug pre-start indicator light

This indicator light comes on when the ignition is turned on. After the glow plugs have warmed up, the lamp goes out; after this you can start the engine.

Note:

• if the engine is cold, the glow plug light stays on for a longer period of time
• if the engine has not been started within 5 seconds after the glow plug indicator light has gone out, return the ignition key to the LOCK position. Then turn the ignition back on to activate the glow plug pre-start system again
• on a warm engine this lamp does not light even when the ignition is turned on

Fuel filter indicator light

This light comes on when the ignition is turned on and goes out after the engine starts. If it comes on while the engine is running, it means that water has accumulated in the fuel filter; in this case, the water must be drained. If the lamp goes out after this, you can continue driving. If it either does not go out or blinks (lights up periodically), we recommend checking the car.

Light indicators warning of malfunctions

Brake system indicator light

This indicator light comes on when the ignition is turned on and goes out after the engine starts.

When the ignition key is in the ON position, this indicator light comes on in the following cases:

• when the parking brake is applied
• when the brake fluid level in the reservoir is low
• when one of the brake system circuits fails

Engine diagnostic indicator light

This light is part of the on-board diagnostic system that monitors exhaust gas composition and the operation of the engine and automatic transmission control systems. If a malfunction is detected in one of these systems, this light comes on. Although the vehicle is usually still drivable and there is no need to tow it, it is recommended to have the vehicle control systems checked as soon as possible.


This light indicator also comes on for a few seconds when the ignition is turned on (ON). If it does not go out after a few seconds, it is recommended to contact an authorized MITSUBISHI MOTORS service center.

Warning: Driving for a long time with the "check engine" light on can cause serious damage to the emission control system. It can also reduce fuel economy and driving performance.

Caution: If this lamp does not light when the ignition key is turned to the ON position, it is recommended that you contact an authorized MITSUBISHI MOTORS service center.

Caution: If this indicator light comes on while the engine is running, avoid driving at high speed and contact an authorized MITSUBISHI MOTORS service center as soon as possible. When driving with the engine diagnostic light on, the vehicle may not accelerate when the accelerator pedal is depressed.

If the vehicle is stationary when this indicator light is on or flashing, you must press the brake pedal harder than usual, because in this case the engine idle speed increases and the vehicle with an automatic transmission receives more traction due to the internal friction in the gearbox.

Note: The engine control unit, which monitors the operation of the on-board diagnostic system, stores data on various faults (especially faults in the exhaust gas monitoring system).

When the battery is disconnected, this data is erased from the memory, which makes diagnostics more difficult and increases its duration. Therefore, do not disconnect the battery if the engine diagnostic indicator light is on.

Battery charging indicator light

This indicator light comes on when the ignition is turned to the ON position and goes out after the engine starts.

Caution: If this indicator light comes on while the engine is running, it may indicate a loose or broken alternator belt or a fault in the charging system.

It is necessary to stop the car and fix the problem.

When the belt breaks, braking efficiency is reduced, so when stopping the car, press the brake pedal harder than usual.

Engine lubrication system oil pressure indicator light

This light comes on when the ignition is turned on (turning the key to the ON position) and goes out after the engine starts. If it comes on while the engine is running, this indicates an abnormally low oil pressure in the system. If this light comes on while the engine is running, you must turn off the engine and find out the cause

Note: This indicator light may come on due to low oil level in the engine sump.

The oil pressure indicator light should not be used as an indicator of the engine oil level. The oil level should be checked regularly using the dipstick (with the engine not running).

Driving with the low oil warning light on all the time may cause the engine to seize.

Door open indicator light

This indicator light comes on when any door is open or not closed securely. When a door is open or not closed securely and the vehicle speed reaches approximately 8 km/h (5 mph), the indicator light flashes 16 times and the buzzer sounds 16 times at the same time.

SRS passive restraint system indicator light

When you turn the ignition key to the ON or START position, the indicator light should come on for a few seconds and then go out. This means that the system has performed a self-diagnosis and is ready to operate. If there are any faults in the airbag system or seat belt pretensioners, the indicator light comes on and stays on. The SRS indicator light signals a fault in the driver and front passenger airbags and seat belt pretensioners.

If this indicator light does not come on when the engine is started, or does not go out within a few seconds after starting, or comes on while the vehicle is moving, contact an authorized MITSUBISHI MOTORS service center immediately.
