Control lights in the instrument cluster
Turn Signal/Hazard Warning Lamps
One of these lamps flashes when the corresponding (left or right) direction indicator
Note: if the flashing frequency increases, this indicates that there is no contact in the circuit of any direction indicator or that the bulb has failed.
When the hazard warning button is activated, both turn signal lamps flash.
High beam indicator light
This indicator light comes on when the high beam headlights are on.
Fog lamp indicator light
This indicator light comes on when the fog lights are on.
Rear fog lamp indicator light
This indicator light comes on when the rear fog light is on.
Diesel engine glow plug pre-start indicator light
This indicator light comes on when the ignition is turned on. After the glow plugs are heated, the lamp goes out; after that, you can start the engine.
Note:
- if the engine is cold, the glow plug lamp stays on for a longer time
- If the engine has not been started within 5 seconds after the glow plug indicator light has gone out, return the ignition key to the LOCK position. Then turn the ignition back on to turn on the glow plug pre-start system again
- on a warm engine, this lamp does not light up even when the ignition is turned on
Fuel filter indicator light
This indicator light comes on when the ignition is turned on and goes out when the engine is started. If it lights up while the engine is running, this indicates that water has accumulated in the fuel filter; in this case, the water must be drained. If after that the lamp goes out, you can continue driving. If it either does not go out or flashes (lights up intermittently), we recommend checking the car.
Fault warning lights
Brake indicator light
This indicator light comes on when the ignition is turned on and goes out when the engine is started.
When the ignition key is in the ON position, this indicator light comes on in the following cases:
- when applying the parking brake
- low level of brake fluid in the reservoir
- in case of failure of one of the circuits of the brake system
Engine Diagnostic Light
This indicator light is a component of the on-board self-diagnosis system that monitors the composition of the exhaust gases and the operation of the engine and automatic transmission control systems. If a fault is detected in one of these systems, this indicator light will turn on. Although the vehicle will normally still be able to move and there is no need to tow, it is recommended that the vehicle's control systems be checked as soon as possible.
Also, this indicator light comes on for a few seconds when the ignition is turned on (ON). If it does not turn off after a few seconds, it is recommended to contact an authorized MITSUBISHI MOTORS service center.
Attention: long-term movement with the lamp on «engine diagnostics» may cause serious damage to the exhaust gas control system. This may also affect the fuel economy and driving performance of the vehicle.
Attention: If this lamp does not light up when the ignition key is turned to the ON position, it is recommended to contact an authorized MITSUBISHI MOTORS service center.
Caution: If this indicator light comes on while the engine is running, avoid driving at high speed and contact a MITSUBISHI MOTORS Authorized Service Center as soon as possible. When driving with the engine diagnostic lamp on, the vehicle may not accelerate when the accelerator pedal is pressed.
If the vehicle is at a standstill when this indicator light is on or flashing, the brake pedal must be pressed harder than usual as the engine idle speed increases and the automatic transmission vehicle receives more tractive effort due to internal friction in the gearbox.
Note: The electronic engine control unit, which controls the operation of the on-board diagnostic system, stores data on various malfunctions (especially about malfunctions of the exhaust gas composition monitoring system).
When the battery is disconnected, this data is erased from the memory, which makes diagnostics more difficult and longer. Therefore, do not disconnect the battery if the check engine light is on.
Battery charging indicator light
This indicator light comes on when the ignition is turned on (turn the key to the ON position) and goes out after starting the engine.
Caution: If this indicator light comes on while the engine is running, this may indicate a loose or broken alternator belt, or a malfunction in the charging system.
You need to stop the car and fix the problem.
If the belt breaks, braking efficiency is reduced, so when stopping the car, depress the brake pedal harder than usual.
Oil pressure indicator light in the engine lubrication system
This indicator light comes on when the ignition is turned on (turn the key to the ON position) and goes out after starting the engine. If it turns on while the engine is running, this indicates an emergency low oil pressure in the system. If this indicator light comes on while the engine is running, turn off the engine and investigate the cause
Note: This indicator light may come on due to a low oil level in the engine sump.
The oil pressure indicator light should not be used as an indicator of the engine oil level. The oil level must be checked regularly with the dipstick (on idle engine).
Driving with a permanently on control lamp (with low oil level) may cause the engine to seize.
Door open indicator light
This indicator light comes on if any door is open or not properly closed. If the door is open or not fully closed and the vehicle reaches a speed of approximately 8 km/h (5 mph), the indicator light flashes 16 times, at the same time the buzzer sounds 16 times.
SRS passive safety system indicator light
When the ignition key is turned to the ON or START position, the indicator light should turn on for a few seconds and then turn off. This means that the system has completed the self-diagnosis and is ready for operation. If there is a malfunction in the airbag system or in the seat belt pretensioners, the indicator light comes on and stays on. The SRS indicator light indicates a malfunction of the driver's and front passenger's airbags, as well as the seat belt pretensioners.
If this indicator light does not turn on when the engine is started, or does not turn off a few seconds after starting, or lights up while the vehicle is moving, contact a MITSUBISHI MOTORS Authorized Service Center immediately.
