Attention! Never attempt to knock the wheel off the shaft with a hammer!
Installation
1. Following the correct alignment of the alignment marks applied during dismantling, seat the wheel on the steering column shaft.
2. Screw on the fixing nut and tighten it to the required torque (40 Nm).
3. Connect the electrical wiring and install the horn activation pad on the hub of the steering wheel.
4. Connect the negative cable to the battery.
Galant models through 1993 no.
Removing
1. Disconnect the negative cable from the battery.

2. Remove the horn activation trim: on models up to 1991, no. the pad should be pressed up in order to release it from the latches, lift and disconnect the electrical wiring; on models 1992÷1993 issue first unscrew the screw located at the bottom of the lining.
3. Give a fixing nut.
4. Mark position of a wheel concerning a steering shaft.
5. Using a special puller, remove the wheel from the steering column.
Attention! Never attempt to knock the wheel off the shaft with a hammer!
Installation
1. Following the correct alignment of the alignment marks applied during dismantling, seat the wheel on the steering column shaft.
2. Screw on the fixing nut and tighten it to the required torque (35÷45 Nm).
3. Connect the electrical wiring and install the horn activation pad on the hub of the steering wheel.
4. Connect the negative cable to the battery.
Models Galant and Mirage since 1994 issue.
Warning! Before doing any work near the airbag unit, steering column or instrument panel, turn off the SRS to avoid injury if it is accidentally deployed (see chapter Onboard electrical equipment). SRS circuit wiring is easily identified by the yellow color of the insulation. To avoid damage to the SRS system, make sure that the steering shaft does not turn after removing the steering wheel. Block the column with the ignition key with the front wheels straight ahead.
Removing
1. Bring the front wheels of the car into a straight line.
2. Deactivate SRS (see chapter Onboard electrical equipment).
Attention! If the stereo system installed in the car is equipped with a security code, before disconnecting the battery, make sure that you have the correct combination to activate the audio system!
3. Prying off, remove the side plastic covers and give the airbag module mounting screws located under the steering wheel assembly.
4. To disconnect the airbag spring contact drum connector, release the retainer by pushing it towards the module. Keeping the retainer depressed, gently pry the connector with a suitable tool and disconnect it from the module.
5. Remove the airbag module and place it with the cover up and transfer it to a clean, dry surface.
6. Mark position of a steering wheel concerning a column shaft.
7. Loosen the fixing nut and remove the wheel using a suitable puller - never try to knock the wheel off the shaft with a hammer!
Attention! To avoid misalignment of the SRS contact cable reel, do not allow the steering shaft to be turned when the steering wheel is removed. In case of forced violation of this requirement, the drum must be centered before installing the wheel in place.
Installation
1. Make sure the front wheels of the car remain in a straight line. If necessary, center the spring contact drum of the airbag - achieve alignment of the NEUTRAL label with the reciprocal indicator on the casing.
2. Place the steering wheel on the column shaft, - make sure that the marks made during the dismantling process are aligned correctly. Screw on the fixing nut and tighten it to the required torque (40 Nm).
3. Install the airbag module.
4. Connect the negative cable to the battery, turn the ignition key to the ON position, the SRS warning lamp on the instrument panel should turn on for seven seconds.
