Mirage Models
Removing
1. Steering pump installation details on Mirage models are shown in the illustration.
2. Disconnect the return hose from the steering pump reservoir and lower it into a drain container.
3. Turn off the ignition system. Turning the engine, turn the steering wheel several times to remove fluid residues from the tract.
4. Disconnect the negative cable from the battery.
Attention! If the stereo system installed in the car is equipped with a security code, before disconnecting the battery, make sure that you have the correct combination to activate the audio system!
5. Disconnect from a wall of the steering pump electroconducting of the gauge switch of pressure.
6. If the generator is located under the pump, cover it with plastic wrap or rags to protect it from spilled oil.
7. Disconnect the pressure line.
8. Remove the steering and water pump drive belts.
9. Remove the water pump pulley.
10. Turn out fixing bolts and remove the steering pump from the basic arm.
Installation
1. Install the pump in its regular place and tighten the bolts of its fastening with the required force.
2. Install the water pump pulley. Screw in the mounting bolts and tighten them with the required force (19 Nm).
3. Install drive belts and adjust their tension (see chapter Settings and ongoing maintenance).
4. After replacing the sealing rings, connect the pressure line, - make sure that the landing marks are aligned correctly. Tighten the pressure line fastening nut to the required torque (18 Nm).
5. Connect the return line.
6. Connect the electrical wiring to the pressure switch.
7. Fill the reservoir with the required amount of hydraulic fluid and bleed the system.
Galant models through 1993 no.
Front steering drive
Removing
1. Installation details of the front steering pump on Galant models up to 1993 vol. shown in the illustration.
2. Disconnect the negative cable from the battery.
Attention! If the stereo system installed in the car is equipped with a security code, before disconnecting the battery, make sure that you have the correct combination to activate the audio system!
3. Disconnect from a wall of the steering pump electroconducting of the gauge switch of pressure.
4. If the generator is located under the pump, cover it with plastic wrap or rags to protect it from spilled oil.
5. Disconnect the return line.
6. Remove cap and drain hydraulic fluid from reservoir through return hose. If the fluid is contaminated, disconnect the BB wire from the ignition system and rotate the engine several times to remove all fluid from the path.
7. Disconnect the pressure line.
8. Remove the steering pump drive belt.
9. Turn out fixing bolts and remove the steering pump from the engine.
Installation
1. Install the pump in its original place, put a drive belt over the pulley and loosely tighten the mounting bolts.
2. After replacing the sealing rings, connect the pressure line, - make sure that the landing marks are aligned correctly.
3. Connect the return line.
4. Connect the electrical wiring to the pressure switch.
5. Tighten the pressure line fastening nut to the required torque (18 Nm).
6. Adjust the drive belt tension, then finally tighten the pump mounting bolts to the required torque (35÷45 Nm).
7. Fill the reservoir with the required amount of hydraulic fluid and bleed the system.
Rear steering
Removing
1. Installation details of the rear steering pump on Galant models up to 1993 vol. shown in the illustration.
2. Jack up the car and put it on stands.
3. Drain the oil from the rear differential housing.
4. Having previously applied alignment marks, remove the cardan shaft.
5. Remove the rear wheel drive axles.
6. If necessary remove the central section of system of release of the fulfilled gases and muffler assembly.
7. Disconnect the pressure and return lines from the pump.
8. Self-locking nuts can be screwed onto the large bolts of the differential carrier plate, before releasing which the rear axle assembly must be supported in the middle with a trolley jack.
9. Give the nuts, then remove the carrier plate from the back of the holder (s) and square dynamic damper.
10. Lower the differential holder and remove it from the vehicle.
11. Turn out a fixing bolt and remove the steering pump from rear differential assembly.
Installation
1. Install the pump on the differential holder and tighten the bolts of its fastening with the required force (19÷28 Nm).
2. Place the rear differential holder in its original place and screw in the support beam bolts. Tighten the new self-locking nuts to the required torque (100÷120 Nm: bolts to top carrier plate holder, 80÷100 Nm: bolts to carrier beam/dynamic damper holder, 110÷130 Nm: carrier beam mounting bolts).
3. Connect the suction and pressure lines to the pump.
4. Replace circlips on both axle shafts.
5. Install the cardan shaft and tighten the elements of its fasteners with the required force (30÷35 Nm).
6. Establish the central section and the muffler of system of release of the fulfilled gases.
7. Adjust the pump drive belt tension and tighten the adjusting bolts.
8. Connect the negative cable to the battery.
9. Lower the vehicle to the ground, check that it is level, and add fresh oil to the rear differential housing.
10. Pour the required amount of hydraulic fluid into the power steering system and pump the path.
Galant models since 1994
Models 2.4 l
Removing

3. Loosen and remove the steering pump drive belt.
4. Disconnect the pressure switch wiring from the pump.
5. If the generator is located under the pump, cover it with plastic wrap or rags to protect it from spilled oil.
6. Disconnect the return line.
7. Remove cap and drain hydraulic fluid from reservoir through return hose. If the fluid is contaminated, disconnect the BB wire from the ignition system and rotate the engine several times to remove all fluid from the path.
8. Disconnect the pressure line.
9. Turn out fixing bolts and remove the steering pump from the engine.
Installation
1. Install the pump in its original place, put a drive belt over the pulley and loosely tighten the mounting bolts.

3. Connect and secure the return line with a new clamp.
4. Connect the electrical wiring to the pressure switch.

6. Connect the negative cable to the battery.
7. Fill the reservoir with the required amount of hydraulic fluid and bleed the system.
Models 3.0 l
Removing
1. Refer to illustration for steering pump installation details.
2. Disconnect the negative cable from the battery.

2. After replacing the sealing rings, connect the pressure line, - make sure that the landing marks are aligned correctly. Tighten the fixing nut to the required torque (24 Nm), - do not forget to place the lock washer.
3. Connect and secure the return line with a new clamp.
4. Connect the electrical wiring to the pressure switch.
5. Adjust the drive belt tension, then finally tighten the pump mounting bolts.
6. Connect the negative cable to the battery.
7. Fill the reservoir with the required amount of hydraulic fluid and bleed the system.
Diamante Models
Front steering drive

2. Drain the power steering hydraulic fluid.
3. Remove the rear steering pump heat shield from the engine side of the differential on the transmission.
4. Disconnect the pressure line from the pump.
5. Disconnect the suction line from the pump.
6. Turn out fixing bolts and remove the steering pump from transmission.
Installation
1. Installation is carried out in the reverse order. Make sure that the fixing bolts are tightened to the required torque (24 Nm).
2. Finally, pour the required amount of hydraulic fluid into the power steering system and pump the path.
