SOHC engine
Removing
1. Drain the coolant from the cooling system.
2. Remove the timing belt.
Pic. 6.7. Water pump for SOHC engines: 1 – a back cover of a belt of a drive of the gas-distributing mechanism; 2 - bolt, 10–12 Nm; 3 - bolt, 24 Nm; 4 - water pump
3. Turn out bolts and remove a back cover 1 (pic. 6.7) timing belt drive.
4. Turn out bolts and remove the water pump 4.
Installation
Installation is carried out in the reverse order of removal, taking into account the following.
Pic. 6.8. Applying a layer of sealant with a diameter of 2.4 mm on the pump flange: 1 - water pump; 2 - sealant layer
Evenly squeezing Mitsubishi Genuine Part No. MD970389 sealant from the tube, apply it to the pump flange so that there is neither excess sealant nor gaps (pic. 6.8).
1. Install the timing belt.
2. Fill the coolant into the cooling system.
DOHC engine
Removing
1. Drain the coolant from the cooling system.
2. Remove the exhaust camshaft pulley.
Pic. 6.9. Water pump for DOHC engines: 1 – a back casing of a belt of a drive of the gas-distributing mechanism; 2 - bolts, 10–12 Nm; 3 – a bolt of a clamp of the gauge of position of a camshaft, 10–12 Nm; 4 - bolt, 35 Nm; 5 - idle (guide) pulley/roller; 6 - bolt, 24 Nm; 7 - water pump
3. Turn away a bolt and remove idle (guide) pulley/roller 5 (pic. 6.9).
4. Turn out a bolt 3 of a clamp of the gauge of provision of a camshaft.
5. Remove the bolts and remove the rear cover 1 of the timing belt.
6. Turn out bolts and remove the water pump 7.
Installation
Installation is carried out in the reverse order of removal, taking into account the following.
1. Evenly squeezing Mitsubishi Genuine Part No. MD970389 sealant from the tube, apply it to the pump flange so that there is neither excess sealant nor gaps (see fig. 6.8).
2. Install the exhaust camshaft pulley.
3. Fill the coolant into the cooling system.
F8QT engine
Removing
1. Drain the coolant from the cooling system.
2. Remove the lower rear timing belt cover.
