Removal

1. Drain the coolant from the cooling system.

2. Remove the timing belt.

Fig. 6.7. Water pump of SOНC engines: 1 – rear cover of the timing belt; 2 – bolt, 10–12 Nm; 3 – bolt, 24 Nm; 4 – water pump

3. Unscrew the bolts and remove the rear cover 1 (Fig. 6.7) of the timing belt.

4. Loosen the bolts and remove the water pump 4.

Installation

Installation is carried out in the reverse order of removal, taking into account the following.

Fig. 6.8. Applying a 2.4 mm diameter layer of sealant to the pump flange: 1 – water pump; 2 – layer of sealant

Apply Mitsubishi Genuine Part # MD970389 sealant evenly from the tube to the pump flange, ensuring there is no excess sealant or gaps (Fig. 6.8).

1. Install the timing belt of the gas distribution mechanism.

2. Fill the cooling system with coolant.

DOНC engine

Removal

1. Drain the coolant from the cooling system.

2. Remove the exhaust camshaft pulley.

Fig. 6.9. Water pump of DOНC engines: 1-rear cover of the timing belt; 2 – bolts, 10–12 Nm; 3 – camshaft position sensor retainer bolt, 10–12 N·m; 4 – bolt, 35 Nm; 5 – idle (guide) pulley/roller; 6 – bolt, 24 Nm; 7 – water pump

3. Loosen the bolt and remove the idler (guide) pulley/roller 5 (Fig. 6.9).

4. Unscrew bolt 3 of the camshaft position sensor retainer.

5. Unscrew the bolts and remove the rear cover 1 of the timing belt.

6. Unscrew the bolts and remove the water pump 7.

Installation

Installation is carried out in the reverse order of removal, taking into account the following.

1. Evenly squeeze Mitsubishi Genuine Part # MD970389 sealant out of the tube and apply it to the pump flange so that there is no excess sealant or gaps (see Fig. 6.8).

2. Install the exhaust camshaft pulley.

3. Fill the cooling system with coolant.

Engine F8QT

Removal

1. Drain the coolant from the cooling system.

2. Remove the lower rear timing belt cover.

Fig. 6.10. Water pump of F8QT engines: 1 – bolt, 12.5 Nm; 2 – bolt, 20 Nm; 3 – water pump pulley; 4 – water pump; 5 – gasket

3. Unscrew the bolts and remove pulley 3 (Fig. 6.10) of the water pump.

4. Unscrew the bolts and remove the water pump 4 and gasket 5.

Installation

Installation is carried out in the reverse order of removal, taking into account the following.

1. Install the pump with a new gasket.

2. Install the lower rear timing belt cover.

3. Fill the cooling system with coolant.

Engine F9Q

Removal

1. Drain the coolant from the cooling system.

2. Remove the timing belt.

Fig. 6.11. Water pump (1) of F9Q engines

3. Unscrew the bolts and remove the water pump 1 (Fig. 6.11) and gasket.

Installation

Installation is carried out in the reverse order of removal, taking into account the following.
