Removing
1. Drain the coolant from the cooling system.
2. Remove the timing belt.
3. Remove the air filter and air inlet.
4. Remove the ignition distributor on engines with one overhead camshaft (SOHC).

5. Loosen the clamp and disconnect the lower radiator hose 10 (pic. 6.13). Before disconnecting the radiator hose, mark the hose and clamp with alignment marks.
6. Turn out bolts and remove the case 8 of the thermostat in gathering and a lining 9.
7. Loosen the clamp and disconnect the heater hose 5.
8. Loosen the clamp and disconnect the hose 1 or 4 of the cooling system.
9. Loosen the clamp and disconnect the hose 2 or 3 of the cooling system.
10. Loosen the clamp and disconnect the inlet pipe 12 of the cooling system assembly and gasket 13.
Installation
Installation is carried out in the reverse order of removal, taking into account the following.
Pic. 6.14. Place of application of sealant (1) on thermostat flange (2)
1. When installing the thermostat, evenly squeezing Mitsubishi Genuine Part No. MD970389 sealant from the tube, apply it so that there is neither excess sealant nor gaps (pic. 6.14).
2. Put a gasket on the coolant supply pipe and apply a little coolant or water to its outer surface.
Attention! Keep engine oil and grease away from the gasket surface.
3. Push each hose as far as it will go onto the fittings (inlet fitting).
4. Before connecting the hoses, align the previously applied alignment marks on the hose and clamp.
5. Check the cooling system hoses and pipe for cracks, damage or blockage. If any faults are found, replace the relevant parts.
6. Fill in cooling liquid in the cooling system.
7. Install the timing belt.
8. Install the air filter and air inlet.
9. Install the ignition distributor on engines with one overhead camshaft (SOHC).
