Removal
1. Disconnect the ground cable from the battery.
2. Drain the coolant.
3. Remove the fan guide shroud.
4. Remove the radiator supply hose.
5. Remove the power steering pump drive belt and the alternator drive belt.
6. Remove the fan and viscous coupling.
7. Remove the water pump pulley.
8. Remove the radiator drain hose.
9. Remove the lower and upper timing gear covers.
10. Remove the camshaft and balance shaft drive belts.
11. Remove the power steering pump and its bracket.
12. Remove the thermostat housing and thermostat.
13. Remove the water pump.
Checking the technical condition
1. Clean and check the condition of the mating surfaces of the water pump and cylinder block.
2. Replace the thermostat, water pump and pump seal gaskets, as well as the hose clamps.
3. Check for leaks from the viscous coupling.
4. Check the condition of the generator drive belt.
Installation
1. The water pump is installed in the reverse order of removal.
2. After installing the water pump, adjust the tension of the generator drive belt.
Caution: To facilitate installation of the seal, moisten it with water. Do not use oil or grease for these purposes.
