Removal

Remove the windshield washer nozzle hose.

Disconnect the connector "6", see figure below.

1 - gas-guided stop,
2 - steering buffer,
3 - sealing rubber,
6 - cable connector,
7 - tailgate,
8 - loop,
9 - locking unit,
10 - opening handle,
11 - lock cable,
12 - lock.

Mark the installation position of the tailgate by outlining the hinge bolts with a felt-tip pen.

Note: If it is necessary to remove the hinges, the ceiling trim in the hinge area must first be removed to gain access to the bolts.

Support the tailgate.

Disconnect the gas-filled struts from the body.

Note: If a gas-filled strut is being replaced, the old strut must be vented before disposal. To do this, drill a 2-3 mm diameter hole in the marked area (10-20 mm) at the end of the cylinder to allow the gas to escape completely. The gas is colorless, odorless, and non-toxic.

Remove the bolts from the hinges and remove the tailgate. You will need an assistant to do this. Before removing the bolts from the hinges, place a soft material between the door and the body to protect the paintwork.

Installation

Install the tailgate, screw in the bolts. Correct the position of the tailgate and tighten the bolts with a force of 15 Nm.

Secure the gas-filled struts.

Caution: When the piston rod is fully extended, do not rotate the stop rod and cylinder relative to each other.

Tailgate adjustment

Release without unscrewing the bolts of the locking unit.

Screw in the adjusting buffers completely on both sides.

Loosen the hinge bolts and move the tailgate so that it is positioned with the same and parallel clearance relative to the body opening.

Tighten the locking unit with a force of 15 Nm.

Then unscrew the adjusting buffers to a height of 14 mm. The buffers serve to cushion the shock when closing the tailgate.

Connect the windshield washer nozzle hose.

Install the electrical connector of the windshield washer motor and rear door glass heater.
