The rear wheel bearing assembly consists of 2 roller bearings manufactured to tight tolerances and matched to size during assembly. The hub bearing is located in the wheel hub or brake drum.
Examination
- Loosen the wheel nuts on the vehicle while it is parked on the ground.
- Mark the position of the wheel disk relative to the hub with paint. Thanks to this, the balanced wheel is installed in its original place during installation.
- Raise the rear of the car, see item 29.
- Remove the wheel.
- With the handbrake released, rotate the brake drum or disc by hand. The bearing should provide easy and uniform rotation.
- Remove the brake drum or brake disc, see item 18.8.
- Check the axial clearance of the hub using a dial indicator. The bearing should have a clearance of no more than 0.2 mm, otherwise, tighten the hub nut and check the clearance again. If the clearance remains large, replace the bearing.
- Install the wheel, observing the markings made. Lower the car and tighten the wheel nuts crosswise. Tightening force see p. 19.4.
