Removal



Before you begin removing parts, perform the following operations:
  • a) Drain the coolant.
  • b) (GDI engine) Remove the engine cover.
  • c) Remove the timing belt.

The parts are removed in the order of numbers shown in the figure "Removing the coolant pump".

Checking the coolant pump

1. Check each part for cracks, damage or wear, and replace the coolant pump assembly if necessary.

2. Check the oil seal assembly for leaks and replace the coolant pump assembly if necessary.

3. Check the bearing for damage, excessive noise during operation and slow rotation, and replace the coolant pump assembly if necessary.

Installation



Installation of parts is carried out in the reverse order of removal.

When installing the parts, pay attention to the installation operation of the coolant pump.

Apply a 2.5 - 3.0 mm diameter bead of sealant evenly to the mating surface of the coolant pump so that there is no excess sealant or gaps.

Mitsubishi Genuine Parts Sealant No. MD970389, Three Bond 1207F or equivalent

Note: Installation must be completed within 15 minutes after applying the sealant.


After completing the installation of the parts, perform the following operations:
  • a) Install the timing belt.
  • b) (GDI Engine) Install the engine cover.
  • c) Fill the coolant to the required level.
