Procedure for removing the ignition switch

The removal and installation procedure is the same for all vehicles. On cars from 1992-98, a ring of illumination of the lock socket, a timer and a reminder sound signal are additionally provided (mounted respectively on the lock, right and left reinforcing brackets of the passenger compartment partition).



Removal and installation



1. Disconnect the battery from ground.

2. On 1992-98 vehicles, remove the lower trim of the front passenger compartment panel.

3. Remove both steering column covers.

4. Remove the wiring harness, disconnect the ignition switch connector through the hole in the steering column.

5. Remove the 2 screws securing the key reminder switch and remove the ignition switch.

6. Installation is carried out in reverse order.

Examination



1. Disconnect the connector and check the circuit between the ignition switch terminals according to the diagram and table.

2. If the contacts do not close in accordance with the table, replace the ignition switch.
