Steering column (1983-98)
1. Bottom cladding; 2. Air duct cover; 3. Sound signal button; 4. Airbag module; 5. Steering wheel; 6. Lower column casing; 7. Upper column casing; 8. Steering shaft lock; 9. Lid; 10. Key lock cable (for cars with automatic transmission); 11. Cable handle (for cars with automatic transmission); 12. Bolt; 13. Steering column
Attention! Before starting work, take measures to prevent the airbag from deploying.
1. Disconnect the battery from ground.
2. Remove both steering column covers, disconnect the wires and set aside.
3. Remove the ignition switch (if provided for by the design).
4. Remove the lower heater duct.
5. Disconnect the steering column wires.
6. Remove the ignition switch and steering wheel lock, remove the reminder signal switch.
7. Disconnect the brake pedal spring from the column.
8. Unscrew the steering shaft clamp bolt, the bolts securing the boot to the floor panel, the bolts securing the column bracket and remove the column.
9. When installing, insert the column shaft into the steering gear, check that the column is installed correctly and tighten the column bolts to a torque of 22 N·m.
10. Install all removed parts in reverse order.
12. Connect the wires.
13. Tighten the steering shaft clamp bolt to 29–34 N·m.

14. When installing the column, do not unscrew or release this bolt.
15. Tighten the cover mounting bolts with sealant.
