Removal and installation
Bipod
Removing the steering knuckle is easier with the steering gear removed.
1. Raise the front of the car and remove the wheel.
2. Unscrew the cotter pin and unscrew the crown nut of the pin, using a puller, press the pin of the bipod out of the central rod (it is prohibited to use a wedge-shaped impact puller).
3. Unscrew the castellated nut of the pitman arm shaft and press off the pitman arm using the MB990809-01 puller.
4. Install the bipod in reverse order.
5. Align the marks on the shaft and on the bipod.
6. Tighten the pitman arm nut to a torque of 140 N·m.
7. Replace the tie rod boot and cotter pin, tighten the pin nut to 40 Nm.
