Precautions when using glass cleaners and washers
(1) If the wiper arms stop due to ice or debris on the glass, the wiper motor may burn out even if the switch is in the OFF position. If the brushes are blocked, stop the car in a safe place, turn off the ignition and remove the obstruction from the glass so that the brushes can move freely.
(2) Do not operate the windshield wipers when the glass is dry. This can scratch the glass and cause premature wear of the brushes.
(3) Before turning on the windshield wipers in cold weather, check if their brushes have frozen to the glass. Operating the wipers with frozen brushes can cause the motor to overheat.
(4) Try not to turn on the washers for more than 20 seconds of continuous operation. Do not operate the washer when there is no fluid in the washer reservoir as this may damage the washer pumps.
(5) Regularly check the level of detergent in the reservoir and top up if necessary. If the washer reservoir low indicator light comes on, fill the reservoir with washer fluid as soon as possible. In cold weather, be sure to add the recommended concentration of anti-freeze windshield washer fluid to the reservoir. Otherwise, the washer will not work and, due to freezing of the washing liquid, parts of the system may fail.
(6) When using the washers in cold weather, the washer fluid applied to the glass may freeze on the glass, reducing visibility. Before turning on the washers, heat the glass with a heater or using a forced ventilation system (heater).
