1. To reduce hydrocarbon emissions, blow-by gases are directed into the intake manifold to be burned in the cylinders. This is accomplished by circulating fresh air from the air cleaner through the crankcase, where it mixes with blow-by gases and is directed through the PCV valve into the intake manifold.

2. The main components of the PCV system are the PCV valve, the fresh air intake pipe with filter, and the vacuum hoses connecting these two components to the engine.

3. To maintain idle parameters, the PCV valve limits flow when the intake manifold vacuum is too high. During acceleration and under high loads, the vacuum is low, so the PCV valve opens and increases flow.
