The 4D56 D-DI engine is a modification of the 4D56 and 4D56T engines previously used in Mitsubishi cars of the L-200 Strada, L-300 Delica, and Pajero models. The difference from these engines is the use of a twin-camshaft cylinder head, a Common rail fuel system, and the absence of cylinder block liners.

The 4D56 D-DI engine is an in-line, four-cylinder, dual overhead camshaft (DOHC) engine.

The cylinder block is cast from cast iron, the cylinder head is made from aluminum alloy.

Fuel system - direct fuel injection, Common rail type, with non-synchronized injection pump and high-pressure fuel manifold.

Lubrication system - full-flow type with water-oil heat exchanger.

The oil pump is of the trochoid type. The oil filter is located on a transition bracket with a bypass valve. Oil nozzles for cooling the piston bottoms are installed in the cylinder block.

The cooling system is a closed type, with forced circulation of coolant, thermostat, expansion tank and fan. The coolant pump is centrifugal.

Air supply system - with turbocharger and intercooler of supercharged air.

The original can be found on the website MitsubishiMan.ru

The engine is balanced by second-order inertial forces by two additional balance shafts, which are located in the cylinder block, at the top left and bottom right (in the direction of the vehicle) and are driven by a toothed belt from the crankshaft.

The crankshaft is forged steel, five-bearing.
