In order to reduce the number of components and improve manufacturing efficiency, this cylinder block does not have liners. Previous designs used thin-walled dry-type liners.

For more efficient cooling of the cylinders, the diameters of the channels have been increased and a ribbed inner surface of the water jacket has been used.

Piston

Compared to previous engines, the piston has a recess in the bottom (combustion chamber) and a graphite skirt coating. To increase strength characteristics and service life, the piston pin diameter is increased and the distance between the inner piston walls is reduced. To reduce detonation, the pin axis is offset relative to the piston axis.

Cylinder head

For better swirling of the air flow, it has two types of air intake channels - vertical and tangential type.

The inlet and outlet valves are made of heat-resistant steel.

The camshafts (and the high-pressure fuel pump) are driven by a toothed belt from the toothed pulley of the crankshaft through a toothed pulley mounted on the intake valve shaft; the shafts are connected to each other by toothed gears.

To eliminate the gap in the engagement between the shaft gears (in order to reduce noise), an additional spring-loaded gear is used, located on the intake valve camshaft.

The valve push levers (hereinafter referred to as rockers) are stamped steel. Double rollers are used to reduce friction. The rocker has a spherical adjusting screw that fits into a spherical support screw installed in the cylinder head. The opposite side of the rocker rests on a cap installed on the valve stem.

The valve cover is adapted for the Common Rail system. The design feature is the presence of ring seals in the upper part of the cover to seal the fuel injector housings and fuel pipes.

For more efficient cooling of the radiator, a 6-blade fan impeller is used.

Drive belts

The air conditioning compressor is driven by a V-belt.

The generator and power steering pump are driven by a poly V-belt

The synchronization drive is carried out by two toothed belts. One belt is used to drive the balance shafts, the second - to drive the cylinder head camshafts.
