Transfer case operation in 2WD mode (control lever position "2H")
When the "2H" mode is engaged, the movable spline ring of the 2WD/4WD shift mechanism clutch is in the position shown in Fig. M2 4.013.
Transfer case operation in 4WD mode (control lever position "4H")
When the "4H" mode is engaged, the movable spline ring of the 2WD, 4WD shift mechanism clutch is in the position shown in Fig. M2 4.014.
In this case, the front splined crown of the movable clutch ring does not engage with the splines of the interaxle differential lock clutch, which can redistribute torque between the axles depending on road conditions. In this case, the viscous clutch limits the difference in angular speeds of the front and rear drive wheels to prevent slippage and the occurrence of unwanted torque fluctuations in the transmission.
Transfer case operation in 4WD mode (control lever position "4HLc" or "4LLc")
When the "4HLc" or "4LLc" mode is engaged, the movable spline ring of the 2WD/4WD shift mechanism clutch is in the position shown in Fig. M2 4.015.
In this case, the front splined crown of the movable clutch ring engages with the splines of the interaxle differential lock clutch, locking it. In this case, when driving off-road, the torque of each wheel does not depend on the condition of the surface. Its distribution is fixed.
Transmission Status Indicator Light Control Unit
This unit receives signals (in the form of ON/OFF) from limit switches installed on the transfer case and on the front axle, which determine the position of the transmission components, and controls the transmission status indicator light.
