Removing
Disconnect the earth cable from the battery.
Attention: This erases data in the electronic memory, such as the engine fault memory or the radio code. Disconnect the battery only when the ignition is switched off, otherwise the control unit for the fuel injection device may fail. Before disconnecting the battery, read the instructions in sections "Radio" And "Removing and installing the battery".
Carburetor engine: Disconnect the vacuum hose from the vacuum connector of the ignition distributor.
Disconnect the electrical wires from the ignition distributor and disconnect the connectors. Before doing this, mark the wires with adhesive tape.

Set the engine to the TDC position of cylinder 1, see point 1.6.
Loosen the fastening nut.
Pull the ignition distributor out of the cylinder head.
Installation
If present, check the integrity of the O-ring at the base of the ignition distributor and replace if necessary.
Check if the engine is at TDC cylinder 1, adjust if necessary, see point 16.
Vehicles manufactured before August 1990
Turn the gear wheel until the alignment marking on the gear coincides with the marking on the housing.
Install the ignition distributor and straighten it so that the line on the distributor flange is opposite the stud.
Insert and secure the ignition distributor.
Production cars since September 1990
Rotate the distributor shaft so that the marking on the clutch coincides with the marking on the distributor housing.
