Removal
1. Disconnect the wires from the battery terminals. Remove the battery and tray.
2. Raise the vehicle and place it on stable stands.
3. Drain the oil from the gearbox (see Chapter 1).
4. Disconnect the gear shift lever (see section 2) and the clutch lever mechanism from the gearbox.
5. Disconnect the speedometer cable and electrical connectors from the transmission.
6. Remove the starter.
7. Remove exhaust system components to provide access.
8. Support the engine. This can be done with a winch or a jack (using a wooden block) placed under the engine sump. The engine must be supported at all times while the transmission is removed.
9. Remove all chassis and suspension components that prevent removal of the gearbox (see Chapter 10).
10. Disconnect the drive shafts from the gearbox (see Chapter 8).
11. Support the transmission with a jack, then remove the transmission-to-engine mounting bolts. On some models, it will be necessary to remove the clutch basket to gain access to the lower transmission-to-engine mounting bolts.
3.11 On most models you will need to remove the bolts and disconnect the clutch housing cover to gain access to the lower transmission to engine mounting bolt.
12. Unscrew the gearbox mounting bolts and nuts. Unscrew and remove the gearbox mounting bracket.
13. Check again that all wires and hoses are disconnected from the gearbox, and move the gearbox together with the jack to the side until it is disconnected from the engine.
14. Once the input shaft is free, lower the transmission and remove it from under the vehicle.
15. With the gearbox removed, you can inspect the clutch components. As a rule, after removing the gearbox, new clutch components are installed.
Installation
16 Reinstall the clutch components if they were removed (see Chapter 8).
17. With the gearbox secured to the jack, lift it into place and carefully move it forward, engaging the input shaft with the clutch splines. Do not apply excessive force when installing the gearbox - if the input shaft does not engage the splines, change the angle of the gearbox and/or rotate the input shaft until the splines align.
18. Insert the gearbox mounting bolts to the engine. Tighten the bolts to the required torque.
19. Install the mounting bracket and mounting nuts or bolts.
20. Install the previously removed chassis and suspension components. Securely tighten all nuts and bolts.
21. Remove the jacks supporting the gearbox and engine.

22. Install the previously removed elements, referring to Chapter 8 when installing drive shafts and Chapter 4 when installing exhaust system components.
23. Finally check the connections of all wires, hoses and speedometer cable, as well as filling the gearbox with the required oil to the required level (see Chapter 1).
24. Install the battery with the tray, connect the wires to the battery terminals. Check the operation of the gearbox while driving and make sure there are no leaks.
