Automatic transmission — general information (Mitsubishi Lancer 3)

At the customer's request, the COLT/LANCER can be equipped with an automatic transmission. The automatic transmission has 3 forward gears that are switched automatically.

To enable faster acceleration, for example when overtaking, the automatic transmission has a so-called "kickdown" switch, which is activated when the gas pedal is fully depressed. The kickdown effect is that the gearbox downshifts to achieve maximum acceleration.

To perform a performance check and to professionally search for defects in an automatic transmission, experience and knowledge of the design are required. Therefore, only the most important procedures, such as adjusting the control cables, are described here. Maintenance (checking the oil level/changing) is presented in the Maintenance section at the end of the manual.
