Front suspension torsion bar
1. Case; 2. Torsion arm; 3. Torsion
Removing
1. Raise the front of the car.
2. Remove the wheel.
3. Jack up the lower arm.
4. Remove the covers from both ends of the torsion bar.
5. If the removed torsion bar will be installed again, then mark its position.
6. Turn away a nut and get a torsion bar from the suspension arm.
Installation
1. Installation is carried out in the reverse order, taking into account the following.
2. Install the removed torsion bar according to the marked marks, the new one - along the white strip, which is aligned with the mark on the lever (the strip should be facing forward, do not confuse the right and left torsion bars).
3. When assembling, maintain dimension A. For cars 1983-91. A=13.5–14.2 cm (left torsion bar) and 12.4–13.2 cm (right torsion bar), for cars 1992-98 A=14.9 cm (left torsion bar) and 14.85 cm (right torsion bar).
4. Adjust the front suspension clearance (set size B), for which, on the removed torsion bar, tighten the nut to its position before disassembly, on the new torsion bar, tighten the nut, setting size B: for cars 1983-91. B no more than 6.1 cm (left torsion bar) and not more than 7.1 cm (right torsion bar), for cars 1992-98 size B no more than 8.0 cm (both torsion bars).
5. Fill the boots with grease.
6. After lowering the vehicle, check the distance between the buffer bracket and the stop (1983-91) (left) or between buffer and delimiter (1992-98) (on right). These distances should be 71–79 mm and 21–23 mm, respectively.
7. Adjust if necessary by turning the torsion bar bolt nut.
