Disassembling the downshift clutch

1. Remove the spring ring (1).
2. Remove the reaction plate (2).
3. Remove the clutch disc (3).
4. Remove the coupling plate (4).
5. Remove the spring ring (5).
1) Install the special tool MD998337 as shown in the figure.
2) Compress the return spring and remove the spring ring.

6. Remove the spring holder (6).
7. Remove the sealing ring (7).
8. Remove the return spring (8).
9. Remove the downshift clutch piston (9).
10. Remove the sealing ring (10).
11. Remove the sealing ring (11).
12. Remove the sealing ring (12).
13. Remove the downshift clutch holder (13).
Assembly of the reduction clutch
1. Install the downshift clutch holder (13).
2. Install the sealing ring (12).
3. Install the sealing ring (11).
4. Install the sealing ring (10).
Note:
- Install new O-rings and coat them with automatic transmission fluid.
- Be careful not to damage the O-rings during installation.
5. Install the downshift clutch piston (9).
6. Install the return spring (8).
1) Align the holes of the two return springs with the two projections on the downshift clutch piston, and then install the return springs.

7. Install the sealing ring (7).
8. Install the spring holder (6).
9. Install the spring ring (5).
1) Install the special tool MD998337 as shown in the figure.
2) Compress the return spring and install the spring ring.

10. Install the coupling plate (4).
11. Install the clutch disc (3).
12. Install the reaction plate (2).
1) Install the clutch plates and clutch discs into the reverse clutch retainer one by one.
Note: When installing the clutch plates, align the non-toothed part (A) with the hole in the underdrive clutch retainer (B).

2) Install the reaction plate as shown in the figure.
Note: When installing the reaction plate, align the non-toothed part (A) with the hole in the reverse clutch retainer (B).

13. Install the spring ring (1).
1) Install the spring ring into the groove of the downshift clutch retainer.
2) Install special tools MB991629 and MD998924 as shown in the figure and compress the coupling.

3) Make sure that the gap between the spring ring and the reaction plate is within the standard value. If the value is outside the standard value, select a suitable snap ring and adjust the gap to the standard value.
Standard value: 1.6 - 1.8 mm.
