Removal
- On a 4G9 engine, remove the upper engine cover.
- Remove the lower engine splash shield.
- Disconnect the cable from the negative battery terminal.
- Loosen the tension and remove the air conditioning compressor and power steering pump drive belt (Fig. 19.7).

- Loosen the tension and remove the alternator drive belt.
- Disconnect the electrical connectors and wires from the generator.
- On an engine with an MPI injection system, unscrew the bolts and remove the water pump pulley.
- Remove the bolts and the generator adjusting bar.
- Loosen the nuts, remove the generator mounting bolt and remove the generator.
Installation
- Installation is carried out in the reverse order of removal.
