This part Chapters 2 is dedicated to engine repair without removing it from the vehicle. Information regarding engine removal and installation and overhaul of the cylinder head and engine block is provided in parts B of this Chapter.

The repair procedures described below assume that the engine is installed in the vehicle. If the engine has been removed from the vehicle and mounted on a stand, many of the items in this section Chapters 2 need to skip.

Specification included in this part Chapters 2, applies only to the procedures described in this section. The specification for assembling the cylinder head and cylinder block is contained in part B Chapter 2.

This book covers the two main types of four-cylinder engines found in Mitsubishi models: single overhead camshaft (SOHC) and dual overhead camshaft (DOHC). There are several different versions of the SOHC engine; each version has its own number - G64B, G62B. G63.B. G15B, G32B, 4G63, G4DJ, 4G15 and G62B Turbo. There are two versions of the DOHC engine - 4G32 and 4G61. Using the engine identification table, determine the type of your engine by the car model and year of manufacture. If different engines can be installed for the same year, determine the engine type by the identification plate installed on the transverse bulkhead.
